This vampire story is 90% powered by Peter Murphy and a cavalcade of world music like Irfran and Stellamara. The fact that I can listen to those sounds without this becoming a huge gothic (read goffic) cliche is a demonstration of growth from yonder days when I tried too hard. We always laugh at teen angst, but we never talk about how to measure how we know we’ve gotten away from it…for me being able to listen to Bauhaus or The Smiths without producing over emotional pieces that are all aesthetic and over complicated premises.
Yeah, I like this.
So how about you how do you know when you’ve outgrown your younger writer’s habits?
